Regional Director for NADMO at Bono East Region, Rasheed Konlaabig affirms that some districts along the Tano River have been advised not to consume water from the river Tano till further notice.
“Six districts have been advised not to drink from the Tano river for now until further notice. So currently, Ghana Water Company has advised these six districts accordingly.” He stated.
A cargo truck with a Burkina Faso registered number, carrying 2,500 gallons of sulphuric acid and some unspecified quantities of shovels from Tema to Burkina Faso plunged into the Tano river rendering it poisonous and unsafe for consumption.
As a result of the accident, the acid in the batteries washed into the water and culminated in the death of several aquatic animals including fishes and crocodiles among others.
The Regional Director also stated that efforts are underway by some volunteers from NADMO to desilt the river.
“Now, almost everybody is worried because abstaining from drinking from the Tano river is now a problem because that is the main river that supply those districts with water. So currently it is a problem that we are facing so we are hoping that in no time this situation will be resolved and then people would get back to thier normal activities”. He stated
