The Ghana Police Service has begun an investigation into an alleged gathering of the Christ Embassy Youth Church at the Fantasy Dome, Trade Fair Centre in Accra.
The event which was dubbed “Pneumatica Night” was organized on Friday, April 30, 2021 amid a “flagrant disregard for COVID-19 protocols.”
Photos and videos from the event shows crowded congregants who worshipped without nose masks yet screamed and danced to the “evangelism” of non-mask-wearing leaders.
They also did not follow the 1 meter social distancing protocol.
The Police, in a release dated May 2, 2021, scored that the gathering puts the entire country at risk of spreading COVID-19.
“Police have since Sunday morning locked up the Fantasy Dome and have started questioning leaders of the church and management of the Fantasy Dome about the event.
“…any person found culpable will be arrested and duly prosecuted,” the release said.
The Ghana Police Service has, however, indicated that it did no provide security at the said event because there was no official notice served.
“Meanwhile, on Sunday morning, Police Officers laid surveillance at the Christ Embassy Service Centre at UPSA where a similar programme had been advertised to carry on; that programme was held with all COVID-19 protocols being observed,” the press release added.
Occupy Ghana has entreated the Police to probe circumstances under which the Christ Embassy Youth Church organized the event without observing COVID-19 protocols.
“We are shocked that the authorities could either actively or negligently allow this event to be held in Accra, especially by a religious organization whose leader actively denies the virus and preaches against the protocols.
“The government must answer to Ghanaians whether this event was held on its blind side, and if so, how that was possible? Was the police present at the event, and if so, why? Were government officials invited and were they present? Were the venue owners present, and did they take any steps to prevent or stop this?”
