Management of the University of Ghana has opened a Book of Condolence in honor of the late immediate past Chancellor of the university, Mr. Kofi Annan.
The opening of the book to members of the university community was made at a short ceremony held at the Council Chamber yesterday August 30.
The short ceremony was graced by the Vice-chancellor Professor Ebenezer Oduro-Owusu as well as the Chairman of the council Professor Yaw Twumasi.
Registrar of the University, Mrs. Mercy Haizel-Ashia who was also present at the ceremony described Mr. Kofi Annan as an influential person whose personality played a crucial role in the many feats attained by the University.
“He came to the office of the chancellor with a lot of influence. He helped us a lot with international engagements. You know Universities have a lot of funding when it comes to research so whenever the University needed support he was always very willing .”
She explained that the university tapped into the influence of Mr. Kofi Annan to gain local and international recognition which has helped the university to progress.
Mrs. Mercy Ashia added that the University will forever cherish and miss Mr. Kofi Annan for his tremendous contribution to the growth of the institution.
“We are grateful for the ten years that Mr Annan served with UG. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace. We will miss you Sir”.
