Some illegal miners from the Manso Aponapon of the Amansie South District in the Ashanti region are reported to have attacked some members of the inter-ministerial task-force and the small scale mining association of Ghana.
The actions swiftly follows the arrest of three suspected Chinese nationals who were believed to be engaging in illegal mining activities on the outskirt of the Manso Aponapon of the Amansie South district in the Ashanti region of Ghana on Thursday, December 13.
According to Patrick Don Chebe, the Deputy Commander of the Small Scale Anti-mining task-force, Ghanaians in the area would not allow the task-force carry on with its duty without a fight as residents pelted stones at members of the task-force. He said,
“We were attacked with stones which forced us to fire warning shots before taking the suspects away’, one of the members of the task-force told the media.
The inter-ministerial task-force after the attack has pledge its unflinching support to help government clamp down on all illegal mining activities as the government expedite measures to lift the ban on small scale mining in the country.
