Former Chairman of the University of Ghana Council Dr. Ishmael Yamson called on Ghanaians to do away with the political divide that is plaguing the country. He further stated that the “Ghana Beyond Aid” agenda of the current government should be adopted as a national idea and not a political agenda of a particular party in power in order to revitalize our economic situation.
“…we must now show by example by and dismantle the political divide that seems so entrenched in everything we do…we also have the opportunity to rejuvenate our economy, the main thrust of Ghana beyond aid is to transform the economy and build a prosperous economy”
In a keynote address at the 71st Annual New Year school and conference held at the University of Ghana, under the theme “Attaining Ghana Beyond Aid: Challenges and Prospects”, Dr. Yamson shared some recommendations on how to ensure the effectiveness of Ghana beyond Aid initiative
“I have only three recommendations, first there must be ruthless focus on execution the charted document says so and it should be followed through. My second recommendation is that the behaviours of the [executors] of the Ghana beyond aid Agenda must demonstrate behaviours consisting with those defined in the strategic agenda, finally, failure is not an option, and the cost of failure will be too high to contemplate and should not be an option”
