Veteran Actor, Ken Fiati has described the move to find a name for Ghana’s film industry as a misplaced priority.
According to Fiati, there are other pressing issues to tackle in the industry than finding it a name.
He said this in an exclusive interview with Univers Entertainment.
He stated “For me as an industry player, I think it’s a step not in the right direction because there are a lot of very important things that need to be taken care of before we get there,
He also added that Nigerians did not have to go all out to find a name for their film industry yet they are successful.
“When you look at Nollywood for Instance; Nollywood did not have Nigerian Film stakeholders coming together to name or rebrand or to Christian what they have as an industry. At the time the name came up, it was something that came by itself where people said, Nigerian Films is thriving so let’s call it Nollywood. I don’t think Ghana even has an industry to be thinking of a name”
A few months ago, the general public was made to submit names they think can best represent the Ghanaian movie industry. The National Film Authority formed a committee to finally select from the entries one for the industry and out of the lot there were ten names that were presented to the public again to vote’
