Minister for Works and Housing, Mr. Samuel Atta Kyea has expressed elation on the resolve by Forever Construction and Consultancy Limited and other private company to provide affordable housing for Ghanaians. He said that it was the government’s role however to create the enabling environment for more private companies to thrive in the country and contribute to the country’s development.
“I am very excited that it is coming from the private sector, which we all say is the engine of growth. It is true that it is not the government that can solve every problem. In fact, what is known in the whole world is that the government should give what is known as the enabling environment for the private sector to deliver. That is what we are trying to do” he said.
Speaking at the launch of the Affordable Housing Project by the Forever Construction and Consultancy Limited as part of their 10th Anniversary he revealed the ways by which government could help the private sector to provide Ghanaians with affordable housing.
“With some of our partnership, the Ministry of Works and housing has land banks all over the country. So that if the private sector company wants to do affordable housing we could yield some of the lands litigation free for them to do good houses for our people. We also have tax incentives that they will enjoy by virtue of the fact that they want to do affordable housing” he said.
He finally advised Ghanaians especially building construction companies in the country to avoid mediocrity in all they do.
“When I looked at the kind of structures that forever is putting together, I got persuaded that these houses can pass anywhere in this world. That is what the Ghanaians should aim to do. The Ghanaian should never be associated with mediocrity. There is nothing about Ghanaian that is average. So if there is any mindset that we are entitled to averages then we must destroy that mindset.”
