Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta says that the government has planned to reduce the Communication Service Tax (CST) from 9% to 5%.
He disclosed this during the mid-year budget review and supplementary estimates on Thursday, July 23, 2020.
According to the Minister, this is in line with the government’s digitization agenda.
He believes that the move is timely as the coronavirus pandemic has forced “more and more people work remotely and utilize online services.”
Mr. Ofori-Atta added that the government was counting “Telcos to also match this reduction in the CST by reducing their tariffs”
The government, last year, increased the CST Tax to nine per cent from the initial six per cent.
The increase, according to the government, was to enable it get a fiscal space to create a viable technology ecosystem to among other things identify and combat cybercrime in the country.
