The Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia says government has instructed the three development authorities, Northern, Middle Belt and Coastal Development Authorities to set aside portions of their budgets to be given out as soft loans to market women and traders across the country.
Dr. Bawumia says the move is aimed at helping such women in distress.
He made the remarks when he interacted with market woman and fisherfolks at Tema New Town as part of his tour of the Greater Accra Region.
“We are looking at providing traders and small business loans. To this end, we have decided to make new arrangements for the Northern, Middle Belt and Coastal Development Authorities. We have told them to set aside some of the US$1 million we have given the constituencies to support your businesses so vote for the NPP to bring more development to you.”
The three Development Authorities were established and tasked with the implementation of the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP) – the Programme which will ensure the disbursement of the equivalent of $1 million per constituency per year, in fulfilment of President Akufo-Addo’s 2016 campaign pledge.
