With 7:35 seconds left and the University of Cape Coast(UCC) leading the University of Ghana (UG) 51-47, the final game of the 2020 GUSA basketball tournament was postponed following a disruption from spectators.
The decision to postpone the heated game was made after consultations between coaches of both teams and match officials.
Both teams entered the matchup with a chance to take the gold.
The defending champions, UG, had win all 9 of their previous games and were guaranteed gold with a win over UCC.
A loss on the other hand, would have given UCC the gold, leaving UG with silver.
Fans of both teams came out in their numbers to support their teams.
The cheerful atmosphere evolved into a tense one following some calls from officials that fans did not agree with and continually voiced their frustrations.
In the 4th quarter of the game, with a little more than 7 minutes to go, an off ball incident involving opposing players drew the attention of all fans.
The foul call which went in favour of UG was met with displeasure from opposing fans and players. Added to this were the instances where sachets of water were thrown onto the court disrupting the game. It was at this point that match officials deemed it necessary to pause the match.
The match was eventually postponed to be continued at another time.
The score at the period was 51-47 in favour of UCC.
