William Amponsah of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has set a new record in the 10,000m event at the 2020 Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Games currently underway at the University of Ghana.
The Level 100 Physical Education student emerged as winner, clocking a time of 29:53.07s, toppling the 32:42.80s record set by UCC’s Malik Yakubu in 2018.
William Amponsah has established himself as one of the best long distance runners in the country following successive impressive performances, not only in the GUSA Games, but other national competitions.
Already, he has broken the 5000m record in the GUSA Games.
Last year Amponsah won two heralded marathon events in Ghana, the Kwahu Easter Marathon and the Millennium Marathon, setting new records in both competitions.
